The History of Physician Anesthesia Service, P.C.

Physician Anesthesia Service, P.C. is a twenty physician anesthesiology group that was incorporated in 1969. Dr. Homer Larson and Dr. Eugene Bleil originally founded the service in August 1958. They originally served St. Lawrence, Ingham Chest, and E.W. Sparrow Hospitals on a surgeon requested basis. In 1959 they made a commitment to base themselves solely at Sparrow Hospital. This was followed by expansion to four physicians, and the practice, which has been servicing the surgical needs of the community in the operating rooms of Sparrow Hospital since then, was born.

The group has gradually expanded as the surgical needs of the Lansing community have grown. Currently there are twenty physician anesthesiologists in the group who serve Sparrow Hospital and St. Lawrence Hospital. Our anesthesia practice encompasses newborns to the extreme elderly, and includes neurosurgical, cardiac, vascular, thoracic, general, urologic, orthopedic, gynecologic, ear nose and throat, ophthalmologic, pediatric, and trauma anesthesia. We are also involved in the management of acute postoperative pain.

Should you ever have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact our office and you will be referred to one of our physicians. Should your surgical needs bring you to Sparrow or St. Lawrence Hospitals, you may ask to schedule a preanesthetic interview prior to the day of surgery to have your questions answered, or you may be contacted by phone.

Wishing you good health; we are:
